In the history of packaging in Mexico, few have reached the level of recognition of the classic Pelón Pelo Rico. More than a sweet treat, it became a cultural icon that we have all enjoyed at one time or another. Behind this packaging that millions of Mexicans identify is the experience of Oroxco, a company that since its inception has been a fundamental part in creating innovative solutions for the food and confectionery industry.
The design behind an icon
Its design integrates several pieces that work together: the main container, which contains the product; the reticulated head, which gives the characteristic effect of “hair” when the candy comes out; the plunger, which pushes the contents upwards; and the support points, which balance the structure so that the mechanism works in a practical and safe way. Every detail was designed to create a playful and unique experience, turning the packaging into both the product and part of the fun. This case study reflects the DNA of Oroxco since its origins: solving creative and technical challenges to give life to solutions that last over time.
“The Pelón Pelo Rico package was not just any design: it represented a challenge in terms of ergonomics, functionality and user experience. It was about creating packaging that would not only protect the product, but would transform it into part of the consumer experience.”

Evolution of the classic
In addition to the classic 35 g container that all of Mexico recognizes, at Oroxco we have developed new presentations to expand the experience: a larger version of 100 g and a smaller version of 15 g. We also collaborate in the manufacture of Pelón Pelonetes packaging, reaffirming our design and production capacity for brands looking for innovative and memorable solutions. And despite the fact that over time the company's focus has expanded to new areas such as the food, beverage, retail and entertainment industries, with less and less participation in confectionery, the Pelón Pelo Rico container conceived in 1985 is still in production. Beyond its functionality, today it represents a legacy with deep historical and emotional value for Oroxco: a living example of what it means to design with purpose, creating containers that tell stories, build experiences and become part of culture.
